Custom Tabs is a new add-on for Queue View templates that allows you to display reports from a saved custom URL directly inside a Queue View. This makes it possible to surface report content such as summary reports, future bookings reports, charts, and other Queue View-supported reports in one convenient place.
Custom Tabs help users access important report data without leaving the Queue View experience, while still respecting the same data permissions assigned to each user.
What are Custom Tabs?
Custom Tabs let you insert a Queue View template custom URL into a report area within Queue View. Each linked URL appears as a tab, allowing users to open and review saved report content directly from the Queue View.
This can be used for many report types, including:
Summary reports
Future bookings reports
Chart-based reports
Dashboard-style reports
Other saved reports created in Queue View
How it works
When a custom report URL is linked to a Queue View, the report is displayed inside a tab in that Queue View.
The report will execute based on the way it was saved in the original instance. This means the report appears as configured at the time it was saved, including the selected date range, filters, and report criteria.
Important permission behavior
Custom Tabs always respect the user’s assigned permissions.
For example, if a user only has access to the New York location, then any Custom Tab they open will only display New York data, even if the report was originally created from another branch or location such as California.
Users will not gain access to additional locations or data through a Custom Tab. They will only see the information they are already permitted to access.
This is one of the most important things to understand when using this feature.
Tab display behavior
If multiple Custom Tabs are added and there is not enough room to show all of them in the visible tab area, Queue View will display a plus (+) indicator with the number of additional tabs available.
This helps keep the interface organized when several reports are linked to the same Queue View.
Editing and report changes
Reports displayed through Custom Tabs are not fully editable from inside Queue View.
Users can view and execute the saved report, but they cannot directly change report settings such as:
Time frame
Fields
Criteria
Other saved filters
To make changes to a report:
Open the report in the original instance
Update the desired settings
Save the report again
Re-execute or reload it in Queue View
Any customization must be done in the Insights report as source instance first.
Benefits of Custom Tabs
Custom Tabs are especially useful when teams want quick access to saved reporting views without leaving Queue View.
Common benefits include:
Faster access to key reports
Users can open frequently used reports from within the Queue View instead of navigating elsewhere.
Better visibility into future bookings
Future bookings reports can show customer details, scheduled activity, and upcoming reservation information in a single view.
At-a-glance dashboards
Chart-style reports can provide a visual summary of performance for a specific saved period.
Consistent reporting experience
Because the report executes based on its saved setup, users see a consistent version of the report each time.
Permission-safe visibility
Reports remain governed by user access permissions, reducing the risk of unauthorized data exposure.
Limitations to keep in mind
Custom Tabs are designed for viewing saved reports, not for building reports on the fly inside Queue View.
Important limitations include:
Reports cannot be fully customized from within Queue View
Any report changes must be made in the original instance
Report visibility is limited to the user’s assigned permissions
Large numbers of linked reports may require navigating through additional tabs using the plus indicator
Pros and cons
Pros
1. Centralized access to important reports
Users can open multiple saved reports directly from Queue View without switching screens.
2. Strong use case for future bookings
Future bookings reports are especially helpful because users can quickly review upcoming reservations and associated customer details from one place.
3. Useful for dashboard and chart reporting
Chart-based reports can give users a visual snapshot of performance for a saved period, which is helpful for managers and operational teams.
4. Respects existing security permissions
Users only see data they are already allowed to access.
5. Saves time for repeat reporting needs
Frequently used reports can be surfaced as tabs for faster daily access.
Cons
1. No direct report customization inside Queue View
Users cannot change filters, time frames, or report criteria from the tab itself.
2. Requires saved report maintenance
If report logic changes, someone must update the report in the original instance and save it again.
3. Can create tab overflow
If too many reports are added, not all tabs may be visible at once.
4. User expectations may need managing
Some users may assume they can interact with the report the same way they do in the original instance, but Custom Tabs are primarily for viewing saved report output.
5. Permissions may limit what users expect to see
A user may open a report expecting company-wide or multi-location data, but only see the locations assigned to their profile. So for example if the report is designed only for Location A and user does not have access to that location, when they try to execute it in custom tab it will not populate anything.
Best use cases
Custom Tabs are a strong fit for:
Future bookings visibility
Summary reporting
Chart and dashboard views
Frequently referenced saved reports
Location-specific operational reporting
Role-based access to preconfigured report views
